Former FBI director James Comey blasts President Trump as unethical and “untethered to truth” and his leadership of the country as “transactional, ego driven and about personal loyalty.” (April 12) AP
The subtitle of James Comey’s memoir due out next week promises to detail the “truth” and “lies” of his tenure as FBI director, cut short by his firing by President Trump nearly one year ago. It’s poised to sell gobs — it’s already a bestseller — and details are already surfacing from the book.
Comey compares Trump to a mob boss and claims Trump considered asking him to investigate an allegedly lewd tape featuring the president (no, not the Access Hollywood one), according to reports from the Associated Press, the New York Post and others.
“This president is unethical, and untethered to truth and institutional values,” Comey writes in the book, according to The New York Times. “His leadership is transactional, ego driven and about personal loyalty.”Â
Throughout his campaign, Trump repeatedly bashed the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a ginormous Asia-heavy trade deal that he killed as president last year. Now he’s having second thoughts: GOP lawmakers said Thursday that Trump ordered aides to inquire about re-entering negotiations on the deal. The would-be turnabout comes after senators and governors from Midwestern states told Trump that the deal could pressure China into halting its unfair trade practices. (Farmers from those states fear a trade war with China.)
From our friends at USA TODAY’s The Short List: Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal: $150,000. Adult film star Stormy Daniels: $130,000. Former Trump World Tower doorman Dino Sajudin: $30,000. Secret hush payments involving Donald Trump are apparently all the rage. Multiple outlets reported Thursday that Sajudin, whose story parallels McDougal’s and Daniels’, was paid in 2015 to stay silent about salacious information he had on Trump. Sajudin’s story claimed Trump had fathered a love-child almost three decades ago. Both Sajudin and McDougal, who alleges she had an affair with Trump, were paid by American Media, the parent company of the National Enquirer. Daniels, who also alleges an affair, was paid by Michael Cohen, Trump’s personal attorney.Â
