Meet the Hull Live reporters covering good news, housing and employment, Hull city centre and the Best in Hull

Meet the Hull Live reporters covering good news, housing and employment, Hull city centre and the Best in Hull
22 May

Hull Live is here – and so are our new patches.

As the home of news, sport and entertainment in Hull, we will be covering everything people in our fantastic city are interested in and talking about.

We already have dedicated reporters covering topics like our courts, crime and local politics as well as ones dedicated to reporting on Beverley and families.

But we wanted to develop our coverage on the issues and areas that we know matter to YOU.

These are the reporters who will be taking those subjects on.

Happy Hull – Sophie Corcoran

Sophie Corcoran is on a mission to make you smile

I’m Sophie Corcoran and I have worked here since the end of July 2017.

More recently, I’ve found myself leaning towards more positive and heartwarming stories, which is the reason I have the patch I do.

I want to bring you those stories that make you smile and those you want to share with your friends and family.

People want to see more positive stories and, even in times of crisis, it’s the positive things that people are doing to respond to those that I want to see.

I recently created a list of people who make us proud to live in Hull. This was made up of a lot of brave, unsuspecting people I’ve met in the last year who not many maybe knew about, but should.

I’ve recently created the Facebook group Happy Hull. The main reason for creating that group is to put a smile on people’s faces and get them to share the things that have brightened up their day and to create a happier feel across the city. I’d love more people to join the group to share their happy news.

Join our Happy Hull group

We’ve created a Facebook group to bring together all the positive news about Hull and East Yorkshire.

The aim of the group is to make you smile and we’d love to hear about the things that have brightened your day.

Join the group here and be a part of our Happy Hull community.

Housing and employment – Alex Grove

Hull Live reporter Alex Grove
Hull Live reporter Alex Grove

My name is Alex and I have been a reporter here since February 2017. I’m a journalism graduate from the University of Sheffield and I moved across the country to Hull from Cumbria after working at a daily newspaper there for eight months straight out of university.

I am originally from Wolverhampton (that place near Birmingham!) but having been in Hull for over a year I feel well settled in the city and I am very much looking forward to working in my new role as the housing and employment reporter for Hull Live.

I have always been fascinated by the individual stories I am told by people who might not usually have their voice heard and I am passionate about making readers aware of the some of the biggest social issues people face in their day to day lives. I have already spoken to council house tenants and jobseekers to put together features on their lives and I am keen to find out more about the real issues affecting people in some of Hull’s biggest estates.

Join our Hull Tenants United group

We’ve created a Facebook group to bring together all the tenants in Hull under one roof.

Click here to join the group so you can get involved in our debates, share your views and raise any concerns you have.

To help achieve this, I have set up the Hull Tenants United Facebook group and I plan to set up more social media forums in due course around my chosen theme. This group will enable people to be part of large and friendly online community where they can share their views and concerns and get involved in topical debates.

People can join the group by clicking here and remember to add your friends and family too so they too can become involved.

This is an exciting time to be a reporter for Hull Live and I cannot wait to delve into my new patch so I can get your questions answered and give communities across Hull and the East Riding the voice they deserve.

Best in Hull – Hannah Robinson

I was born in Beverley 25 years ago, and have since spent my life growing up around west Hull.

In fact, I must find it difficult to leave the place as I also studied for my BA in History at the University of Hull, and have gone on to work here.

I began working here in February 2015, working part-time in the production department while studying for my MSc in Journalism, and since early 2016 I have been part of the news team, where I seem to have developed a penchant for all things food and drink-related.

Over the years I have reported on some fantastic events, including Radio 1’s Big Weekend and the Made In Hull spectacular.

My patch focuses on food, drink and retail, encompassing new and old restaurants, bars and shops, as well as supermarket bargains and the odd music event or two.

I also love a bargain, so I also want to bring you shopping deals, and which new retailers are bringing their brands to the city.

We can’t ignore music, either, with previous events such as Rod Stewart and ELO at the KCOM proving to be huge crowd-pleasers.

I’ve created the Facebook group Best in Hull: Have Your Say group and I want to hear about all of your brilliant experiences with Hull’s food and shopping scene, as well as any upcoming events you know about. Join the group here.

Hull city centre – Dan Kemp

My name’s Dan and having spent three-and-a-half years in local TV, I joined Hull Live in October 2017. I was born and bred in Hull and East Yorkshire and am looking forward to getting to work covering a place I’ve always been passionate about – Hull city centre.

Having been brought up, educated and worked in the area all my life, I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to cover a patch I care about and follow the city centre’s continuing evolution, after the dramatic changes of the past few years.

Being given the chance to report on the changing face of somewhere I’ve always loved and tell the stories of the people and places that call the city centre home is a fantastic opportunity.

People living and working around the city lead hectic lives so in an attempt to bring all the latest city centre news together in one place, I’ve created a Facebook group called the Heart of Hull.

You can join it by clicking here.
